It's about our mothers, our fathers, and one day, ourselves.

It would be a mistake to dismiss the critical juncture senior care has reached in this country. And the degree that actions taken now will affect us for years to come. Millions of baby boomers are entering the system every month.

Meanwhile, the nursing homes have 100,000 vacancies for nurses and nursing aides, and nine out of ten hospitals struggle to have adequate staff to provide a basic level of care. The problem in rural areas is even more severe.

New regulations, programs and standards are under consideration at the state and federal level that will make the system even more bureaucratic and distracted from protecting the spirit and dignity of those it’s supposed to serve. The question is, what can be done about it? And what role can we, as the nation’s largest not-for-profit provider of senior care and services, play?
